Steve Kilar, CPA

Steve Kilar joined RJN Group in 2016 as Controller. In his current role as Director of Finance, Steve oversees the annual budget process, four annual audits including the financial, FAR overhead, 401(k) and ESOP audits, month-end close, and project accounting as well as all accounting staff.

Steve manages monthly meetings to review company-wide project performance, ensures cash flow needs are met through internal budgeting and banking relationships, and works closely with operations on project pricing and management. RJN Group is an ESOP-owned organization, and Steve oversees all annual administrative activity in the ESOP to ensure the plan is run in accordance with the plan document, and to ensure the company has properly budgeted for future repurchase obligations. Steve is also an associate partner at RJN Group and is active on the ESOP Committee.

Steve strives to improve efficiencies in both the accounting department and other areas of the organization, including mapping numerous excel files to automate monthly reporting and automating accounts payable away from paper-based expense reports and invoices to workflow processes within the company’s ERP system. 

Steve was previously the Controller at a private-equity owned company, and was the primary accounting contact on behalf of the selling organization throughout a private equity sale process. He started his career as an auditor at Crowe Horwath, where he had eight busy seasons of experience auditing manufacturers, distributors, and service companies. Steve graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting, and a Master’s of Accounting Science.
